Westerberg at First Ave.

First Ave. hosted "the Craft" featuring Paul Westerberg. The Craft is a concert series sponsored by MGD, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and locally by Minneapolis radio station Cities 97. Featured artists perform and talk about their music in a "Story Tellers" type format. Other featured artists are Elvis Costello, Frank Black, and Aimee Mann. Westerberg appeared at First Ave. on Sunday, September 23.

For the lucky who were given tickets, the interview and performance went off without a hitch. In uncustomary fashion, Paul was cooperative and forthcoming with his answers to questions posed by Warren Zanes (Del Fuegos fame). Despite a hand injury suffered earlier in the year, he played almost flawlessly. Alas, with two perfectly working hands Paul never played flawlessly. But that is part of the charm isn't it? Mats Reunite for One Night...

Well, kinda, maybe, it's not really the Replacements unless Chris was there. But it was as close to a live Mats reunion as we will likely get. Let's just call it the Paul & Tommy show and pray to the gods of music that they decide to take it on the road in the near future.
